Hi everyone --

Attached is the flyer with info for the May 3rd HOUSEBUILDING trip to El Nino.

Your family will have a chance to significantly improve the life of the Baca Sanchez family.  Guillermina and Octavio have 6 children and earn $55 per week.  They currently live in a makeshift home without running water or electricity.  Attached is a photo of their family.

Our troop has a great opportunity: a woman from New Zealand has donated $4,500 to cover the cost of the house raw materials, and our Boy Scouts get to help supply the labor!!!  When we arrive, the concrete slab will be ready, and we'll start building.  There will be jobs for all ages. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

Safety: A couple of people have asked - we feel completely safe going to El Nino & Rojo Gomez, which are rural villages off Highway 2 in Mexico, approx half way between Tijuana & Tecate.  We caravan and have never had any issues in our 50+ trips.  Allie, our 9th grader, returned Sunday from a church housebuilding trip in El Nino, and then she & Jackson, our 12th grader, are both going with Mariners in May.  We wouldn't let them go if we didn't feel that it was safe.  By the way, the cost of these trips ranges from $300 to $500, because the students help pay for the building material costs and stay for several days.  So - we have a great inexpensive chance to experience housebuilding in Mexico!!!

It's also a great chance to practice Spanish and get community service hours!!

We're leaving early (5:30 am) so that we can arrive at the work site by 8:30.  We'll work until 2:00 (they're breaking for a quinceanera), stop for tacos in Tecate, and arrive home at approx 5:30 pm.

Contact David with building questions davidtboyd@cox.net or 433-9737 or me with logistical questions lauraboyd@cox.net or 433-9727.  Also contact me to RSVP.

Muchas gracias,

Laura
